What Is SEPITONE™?

What Is SEPITONE™?

Innovative nutricosmetic SEPITONE™ promises healthy, naturally glowing skin. Keep reading to find out how nutricosmetics work, the benefits of antioxidants, and how SEPITONE™ could bolster your skincare routine.

What exactly is SEPITONE™?

Developed by French company Seppic, SEPITONE™ is a natural nutricosmetic ingredient that harnesses the antioxidant power of fermented wild bilberry extract (Vaccinium myrtillus). A close relative to blueberries, bilberries contain a sophisticated blend of flavonoids called polycatechocyanidins. These powerful molecules could help to bolster collagen production, skin elasticity, and blood circulation.[1]

We'll get into the details of polycatechocyanidins shortly, but first, let's look at how nutricosmetics work and what SEPITONE™ could do for your skin.

What does SEPITONE™ do?

SEPITONE™ belongs to a class of ingredients called nutricosmetics. These products are designed to support the overall health of skin, hair, and nails. However, unlike traditional skincare ingredients, which enter the skin externally, you consume nutricosmetics orally.

In doing so, the active ingredients circumvent the skin's protective barrier, working from inside the body to support functions such as skin hydration, the ageing process, and cell regeneration at the source.[2]

Nutricosmetics are also incredibly straightforward, as most come in powder, capsule, or tablet form. Incorporating them into your daily wellness routine is simple, with ingredients like SEPITONE™ featuring alongside collagen, vitamins, polyphenol, hyaluronic acid, and more.

A healthy glow from the inside out

One of the key features of SEPITONE™ is its role in promoting healthy, glowing skin that not only looks great, but feels great too. Several factors influence a healthy glow, but SEPITONE™ aims to address three major areas:

• Complexion evenness
• Skin colour
• Skin softness

Seppic conducted randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials as part of its internal product testing. Sixty women took part, and results indicated that SEPITONE™ was beneficial on "the three parameters of the healthy glow after 12 weeks of supplementation".[3]

Rich in antioxidants

The bulk of proposed benefits of SEPITONE™ stem from its abundance of antioxidants. A polycatechocyanidin complex (made up of proanthocyanidins and anthocyanin flavonoids) allows the nutricosmetic to influence dozens of bodily processes.

Antioxidants are crucial to human health because they combat free radicals—damaging molecules that contribute to skin ageing, the breakdown of collagen, and skin blemishes. Antioxidants like those found in fermented bilberry extract give up some of their atoms to stabilise free radicals, preventing or slowing down the damage they can cause.[4]

With proanthocyanidins, specifically, researchers believe the impact on human health may include:

• Bonding with collagen
• Promoting youthful skin
• Cell health
• Elasticity
• Flexibility

Those findings are corroborated by a 2019 review of proanthocyanidins and their influence on oxidative stress. The paper's conclusion states that "proanthocyanidins have been known to confer significant health benefits". However, the authors add that "large double-blind clinical studies need to be conducted" to assess their clinical efficacy and full therapeutic potential.[5]

What are the side effects of SEPITONE™?

The good news is that SEPITONE™ appears well-tolerated, with few reported side effects. Fortunately, the human body is well-versed in putting antioxidants to work, and copes with external sources well. Moreover, the extract is entirely free of additives and preservatives.

Of course, everyone is slightly different, so if you have never tried a nutricosmetic product before, it's best to take it slow, sticking to half the manufacturer's dosing guidelines for at least two weeks to get accustomed to the effects.

Finally, it’s important to verify the additional ingredients listed alongside SEPITONE™ in various supplements. Manufacturers often create complex formulas, combining SEPITONE™ with ingredients that may not have the same safety profile or suitability. If you have any questions or concerns, consult your doctor for case-specific advice.

SEPITONE™ in skincare products

Speaking of complex formulas, now seems as good a time as any to talk about how SEPITONE™ works alongside other ingredients to provide a comprehensive boost to skin health. At Cibdol, we've combined SEPITONE™ with patented ceramides (CERAMOSIDESᵀᴹ), vitamins, and minerals. All of these elements work seamlessly to support the skin's delicate ecosystem from within. Moreover, the ingredients listed above only represent a fraction of the natural compounds that blend effortlessly with SEPITONE™. By creating bespoke formulas, it's possible to push the capabilities of nutricosmetics, encouraging their natural wellness-boosting effects.

SEPITONE™: Is it worth trying?

While it's up to you to decide if nutricosmetics like SEPITONE™ are a good fit for your wellness routine, the lack of reported side effects and abundance of natural antioxidants make it an appealing option.

There's no doubt that the world of nutricosmetics is growing, and with it, the products available. Given their support of critical bodily processes, they can, in the right circumstances, achieve much more than traditional skincare products. In fact, it's not just skin that could benefit from nutricosmetics, but hair and nails too.

However, with much still to learn about the effectiveness of orally consumed antioxidants, it's important to take a balanced approach with nutricosmetics. Always source products from reputable suppliers, and check the full ingredients list. Although SEPITONE™ appears well-tolerated, we cannot say the same for all edible beauty compounds.
