CBD Dosage: Understanding the Basics

Working out the correct dosage of CBD can be confusing—especially for those new to the therapeutic compound—because it is contingent on many unique variables. Everything from physical health, age, weight, and metabolism to the condition being treated and the CBD product being used all sustain an impact on dosage.

There is no definitive answer, but to help get you started, Cibdol has put together some essential information alongside guidelines on calculating the right dosage for you.

Start with a CBD oil you can trust

Choosing a CBD brand you can trust is fundamental, not only when it comes to accurate dosing, but also to ensure you get a quality product that contains everything it should, without any unwanted additives or chemicals.

Thankfully, at Cibdol, all of our products are subject to rigorous testing, with the results published online and available to the public. Before deciding to try CBD, you can view a detailed breakdown of all the cannabinoids contained within our CBD oil, and the exact concentration of CBD itself.

CBD appears safe even in high doses—but start low and go slow

If there is one golden rule to complement our golden-grade CBD, it would be to start with a moderate dose and adjust accordingly. The potential of CBD lies in its ability to work with the endocannabinoid system and complement its ability to help restore balance. Balance does not mean flooding the body, no matter how positive the benefits of any given substance may be. If you think about other daily supplements or vitamins, the recommendations are usually to take them once a day. In these cases, less is often more.

Once you have established a moderate dose suited to your circumstances, it is then possible to increase the amount of CBD being consumed—if needed. So far, CBD has shown an excellent safety profile, and other than potential drug-drug interactions, evidence does not show any public health-related problems associated with CBD.

What do the different percentages on our CBD products mean?

When we talk about the percentage of CBD, the figure refers to how many milligrams of CBD are within the oil. If we take our 2.5% CBD oil as an example, it contains 250mg, while our 4% oil contains 400mg. As the percentage of CBD increases, so too does the concentration. In a 10ml bottle of 2.5% CBD oil, buyers can expect around 200 drops, with each drop containing 1.25mg of CBD.

If you take an average daily dose of 3–4 drops, three times a day, that would mean consuming approximately 15mg of CBD (based on our 2.5% CBD oil). To give you some idea of the limitations, 160mg per day is seen as a recommended maximum amount for use as a supplement.

This is why we recommend starting with our 4% CBD oil, as this represents a middle-ground between the stronger and weaker concentrations. Even at four drops, three times a day, you would still only be consuming approximately 24mg of CBD. Don’t underestimate this therapeutic compound though—in some cases, this may be enough.

It is important to stress that everyone’s circumstances, and therefore dosage, will be different. Give yourself several days on a regular dosage to see how you feel before increasing or decreasing the amount of CBD as necessary.

To help you calculate the amount (mg) of CBD being consumed, you can use the following as a guide:

2.5% CBD Oil: 1.25mg CBD per drop
4% CBD Oil: 2mg CBD per drop
5% CBD Oil: 2.5mg CBD per drop
10% CBD Oil: 5mg CBD per drop
20% CBD Oil: 10mg CBD per drop

Comparing Cibdol to other brands

Once you have an idea of the dosage you want to start with, or how you plan to increase your intake of CBD, the next most common query is, “how do our recommendations compare to other brands?”.

In truth, it is a nearly impossible question to answer. Not only does the amount of CBD needed to be impactful vary from person to person, but you'd also need to factor in the extraction method a company uses, their production techniques, and the purity of the final product. All of these attributes play a part in the efficacy of CBD, and therefore affect how much should be consumed.

While we cannot answer for other brands, we can highlight what we take into consideration when producing our golden CBD oil. State-of-the-art equipment and highly specialised CO₂ extraction technology, alongside an expert team, ensure a safe and seamless production process from seed to bottle. The result is an oil that contains unadulterated CBD, while benefiting from the entourage effect thanks to our process maintaining the natural terpene profile.

Dosage can also vary depending on the type of product

If keeping track of how many drops you've consumed proves tough, don’t worry—that is why we also have a range of CBD capsules. Each softgel capsule comes filled with a predetermined amount of CBD:

4% CBD Softgel Capsules: 6.4mg per capsule
10% CBD Softgel Capsules: 16mg per capsule

Again, the right dosage will depend on your circumstances, but taking one capsule three times a day is an excellent place to start.

A conclusion on CBD dosing

We have covered a lot of ground, and although dosage may seem like a daunting subject at first, the main takeaway would be: listen to your body. By using the recommendations above as a starting point, you can decide whether to increase or decrease the concentration of CBD based on how it makes you feel. As always, the key is to choose a reputable and trustworthy producer—like Cibdol!
